New Blog Template!

May 26th. Got a new blog template that I envision to be the be-all and end-all of blog design, but there will be a gradual phasing in of links and whatnot. I could have done all this offline and popped it in when perfected, but I already accidentally burned that bridge (long story) It will be quite cool when done, but of course that will exceed my attention span several times over, so bear with me.

New products from China! They never stop!

We are constantly bombarded with emails from Chinese manufacturers, touting all kinds of strange products, I kind of think these are small operations trying to emulate the success of others, but not there just yet… Although I am sort of intrigued by this “eye massager”….

Hooks into your USB port, then what? I don’t want to end up on the church lawn clawing my eyes out. They need to provide more details. Can I wear it in the bathtub?

No church windows were harmed…

Glass Radiance Stained Glass tuit I thought our wooden round tuits were very cool until I saw these made with bits of stained glass from glassradiance.com - Now I have to drop everything and go buy one, as Teresa insists. It’s a wonder I get anything done at all. I’ll post here when it arrives.

Those are my shoes

My new shoes must be most excellent because they are from the “Exalto” series, they have a “Drilex” lining and a “Phylon” midsole. Sheesh! what planet did they come from.

Seriously though, they have great arch support, and the lacing system is wonderful, the top eyelet is an actual eyelet instead of halfhearted hook that releases the lace as soon as you take your shoes off- These shoes are always fully laced and ready to tie & go, no fumbling with hooks.

They also have webbing most of the way up the tongue, so if I am out mucking around in the woods looking for a geo-cache, my feet stay dry.

Overall they are well built and comfortable, I thought the high arches would be a problem but I just got back from my warehouse job, first night with these shoes and my feet don’t hurt. Lastly, the Michelin name- now I can say, “Well, I put a few more miles on my Michelins” at the end of the shift, you would be surprised how hard it is to come up with shift-change repartee for the day shift people coming in, all bleary eyed and cranky from the traffic. I couldn’t live like that.

Chumby is here! Long live Chumby!

I got my long-awaited Chumby Internet Appliance a few days ago, so far I mainly use it to stream music from the Internet to my night-stand, but soon I will set it up to route only my most important email (customer emails and orders) so I can look at it without getting up.

This might seem a bit frivolous to you, but I work a graveyard shift trying to dig up more money, and to a night shift worker, sleep is a most precious thing. If I happen to be like 48% awakened, I can use one eye to check the chumby, and if I don’t have anything to deal with right away, it eases my mind and I can ramp up to maybe 95% asleep, never reaching the sweet release of 100% comatose, but that’s not important right now.

ANYWAY - I must say I am most impressed with the quality and simplicity of this device. It’s so well designed and of such high quality, I suspect it was made by fallen Amish people who could not resist technology.

What are they doing with my chumby?

I am getting one of those Chumby Internet appliances for my birthday, father’s day and part of Christmas, they shipped it but right now, I kid you not, UPS tracking has it at a place called “Chek Lap Kok” - so I did and discovered my fly was open… how long have I been walking around like that?

Anyway it sounds like the tweakers are making new applications for it (the chumby) all the time… I hardly ever get in early on anything because it’s better to wait for the shakedown and eventual price drop. My “1/2″ car had a tape player in it. (You know, “The average American father and mother have one whole car and half of another” - Jerry Reed)

Getting back to the Chumby… I guess I shouldn’t mind that they ship this (presumably) direct from the factory… But I sure hope they have a decent instruction/setup manual, instead of a scrap of paper saying “not to use in bathtub” or “DO NOT EAT”.
