Economic indicator or full moon indicator?

My nephew went to see that “Dark Knight” Batman movie (What the hell happened to Robin?) I can’t decide whether it’s a good or a bad sign that people weren’t waiting in line to see this crappy movie. Sis writes;

“You can’t buy presell tickets for Deer Park Cinemas so I figured there would be alot of people waiting all day but Stephen ended up buying the first ticket. The lady behind him had brought her dvd player and the movie Batman Begins so Stephen watched that with her. They said there was 2 guys in costume that were in line with them, one in a Batman costume, one in a Joker costume. Another guy in the audience with them was wearing a Superman shirt.”

So there must be some die-hard movie fans even out on the Olympic Peninsula. I am amazed that some lady brought a movie to a movie. Do they allow that? And what’s up with the guy in the Superman shirt? Was his Batman shirt in the wash?

No thank you, fake Batman

My sister and her young uns stood in line to see the latest Batman movie, don’t know what posesses them to see a movie on the first weekend.

It’s not really Batman if you ask me, from the previews it looks more like “The Nightmare Before Christmas”. I am from the old “Biff! Pow! WHAM!” and two-bubble Batmobile school.

And the movie theater, fuhgettaboutit. Last time we all went to the movies, it was “A Night at the Museum” - Ben Stiller comedy where the exhibits come to life, it’s very much a comedy, but some kid - I swear he was at least five, maybe six- Kept saying, “Mom, I’m scared!” Where was dad? Take that boy hunting. Or at least on a hike-in camping trip.

Well here’s something to be scared of - Teresa just brought the mail in- I just woke up mind you- Something from “Lifeline Screening” with a full-color cutaway of a diseased artery (and I *was* going to have bacon and eggs) - A PUD bill, a credit card bill, a news magazine, not looking forward to reading any of that. I tried to get her to put it back out in the mailbox and bring me something more entertaining, but apparently it doesn’t work that way. This is why I prefer email.

Adopt-a-furnishing program

It seems odd to me, the way they word things when posting something to the Snohomish County Freecyclers List. Got this one just now;

I have two floor lamps that need new homes

Well, I’m not sure. Are these floor lamps healthy? Do they have behavior problems? I’m worried that they won’t get along with my other furnishings. What kind of electricity should I feed them?

And then,

I have 3 dining room chairs looking for new home.

I like these dining room chairs, they are being proactive, and actively seeking out a new home, probably interviewing dining room tables, going on hikes hoping to meet other decor-minded furniture.

They might have an ad on Craigslist that goes something like this;

“Looking for a nice home with non-drinking, non-smoking humans. No children please. Also, if you are into the whole “tipping against the wall” thing, don’t even bother. I have protective leg-tips, you be floor safe too. Prefer French Colonial surroundings.

Ripped from today’s headlines

Bee blamed for causing minor helicopter crash

I hope they aren’t too hard on this guy. Who hasn’t almost killed their entire family and a busload of nuns coming the other way because of a bee?

Besides, it was a “minor” helicopter crash. That’s sort of impressive.

Not the dreaded street fair/garage sale trip

The Mrs. thought it would be fun to go to the local street fair - You know, they block off the street and put up tents hawking sunglasses, risque potholders (??), there’s always the “sand art” thing, what else? Oh yeah, I always take this opportunity to get the Sunday paper for about a third off the newsstand price. That guy’s pitch was “Free newspaper! Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back!” but like I said, I was there to do business, he had me at hello.

Then, the garage sales. There are always several this time of year. We went to one and I picked up $3 DVD’s, H.G. Wells’ “Time Machine” and a Sinbad movie, the one with the multi-armed dude and the cyclops. Still looking for Jason and the Argonauts with the fighting skeletons, guess this will have to do for now. Oh, and an “Incredible Hulk” throw to keep in the truck.

They had so many movies, video games, and toys of every description at that yard sale. Know what the kids there were doing? Swordfighting with sticks.

Lesson; read the 2nd paragraph too

From the local Freecycle mailing list;

New more modern style Reclining, Charcoal Grey, Chenille Chair. Looks nice and in pretty good condition. Has a few issues though.

Hey, that sounds good! But what are the issues?

The left arm is a bit loose and could use some bracing but chair is usable as is. The seat cushion has a tear on the side seam that is not easily visible and there is also a hole in the fabric on the back left corner as well as a scratched up spot on the right front corner that isn’t too bad. I’m moving in with someone and we just don’t need this now.

Hey, if your new roommate is already making you get rid of your “Frasier’s Dad” chair, that doesn’t bode well. That chair was the most comfortable place in the house.

Can we be clear on the baby-on-board signs?

I saw this in a car window, it appears to indicate that there is a baby on board who is wearing men’s underwear. Sometimes I wish I was um, multilingual. Or at least fluent in english.

strange Japanese grown baby on board?

We carry the Mom’s Taxi gimmick, but I thought the baby on board thing was discarded years ago as being utterly pointless.

I noticed that there wasn’t a car seat, which makes me even more curious, maybe it’s some sort of gang sign.

It never fails

Even after literally hundreds of trips to the post office, Petey still worries that someone will go in there and accidentally get shipped to Abu Dhabi.

It takes a worried dog

After all, to a dog, the post office is like enemy headquarters.

Clarification on the multiple website names thing

Some customers have expressed confusion because they see links to our products around the web but the store names are different. Here’s why; (This all happened over the course of about 10 years)

1. TheRestlessMouse.com - We used to play the eBaY game, but that was a nightmare, took too much time for just answering questions, giving “feedback”, etc.

So we created The Restless Mouse, intending to make it our store page, but the stores I could integrate to the site left much to be desired. By the time I figured that out, the site had gotten some love from Google, so we decided to keep it for hosting our “blog” that you see here, and linking to our store product pages from there as needed.

2. THATrestlessMouse.com - Then we hooked up with Zoovy.com, they had tools to interact with eBaY automatically. But over the years, they have become focused on big customers who can afford all sorts of custom work and fancy optimizations and consultations, etc. In other words, they got too big for their britches.

Meanwhile we started buying certain popular items in large quantities, and I needed a store host that was a lot more flexible in letting me tweak things myself, and in setting up volume discounts, coupons, and affiliates. After many false starts, we found the motherlode of secure customizable carts at Volusion.com - Plus the cost of using Volusion is very competitive, helping us keep our resale prices low. It’s fast, it’s secure, it has everything we need.

3. So today, our strategy is to drive our traffic and direct our existing customers to that new site at NoveltyTradingPost.com - We got another DBA from the state for just this purpose, we are sure you will love it, I’m feverishly adding products, discounts, and tweaking it for your enjoyment. Our goal is to shut down ThatRestlessMouse.com within 2 years and consolidate the blog site into the NTP setup too. Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.

Yo mama

This Yo Mama joke from Joke-of-the-day doesn’t make any sense. Maybe that’s where the humor is.

Yo mama is so fat, when she passed by the tv, I missed a full
season of Friends.
